notes from a retired psychiatrist
a project exploring the tragedy of a missed alzheimer’s diagnosis.
released in 2024, notes from a retired psychiatrist explores memory, paranoia and loss through the unreliable narration of a man unable to recognise the early signs of his own illness.
a limited-edition lithograph and digital score were produced in support of the alzheimer’s society, with all profits donated to the charity.
a follow up to notes from a retired psychiatrist releases in 2028.
too young to die knitting
every tuesday evening, in the back room of the ferry inn, seven strangers gather for what appears to be an ordinary knitting club.
there used to be eight members.
rip mabel.
no one is there for the knitting.
it’s easier to unravel a ball of wool than the mess you’ve made of your life. silence is less awkward when your hands have something to do. advice is easier to accept from someone who’s just dropped a stitch.
by the end of the night, somebody’s told the truth. usually by accident.

tales from… black pig farm
the world’s first concept album released on a 7-inch vinyl single.
first published in 2000, tales from… black pig farm combined an original score with a dark fable of a widowed farmer and an unimaginable secret.
every copy was individually hand-numbered and wrapped in traditional butcher’s paper by award-winning butcher mr j. alan. the packaging had to be cut open before the record could be played, quietly foreshadowing what lay within.
following its premiere on bbc radio 2 and praise across the national press, the limited edition sold out on release.
“this is a first, a ten track album on a single slab of seven inch vinyl. influences are dr. seuss and the beatles (bearded days), plus it was recorded at abbey road, the result sounds like a musical score for a tim burton animation.”

the forgotten world of treecastle
an unfinished science-fiction world, rediscovered two decades later.
written in 1999 with anthony daniels, the forgotten world of treecastle was imagined as both a concept album and an animated film.
when daniels returned to the star wars saga to reprise the role of c-3po, the project was abandoned.
twenty years later, the music was finally released on vinyl, featuring sarah cracknell (saint etienne) and peter banks (yes), accompanied by a limited-edition signed screen print. a fictional universe, almost lost, finally found its audience.
“a vinyl only release featuring a story co-written with anthony ‘c-3po’ daniels, ‘the forgotten world of treecastle’ is the electronic sci-fi pop album you were looking for.”

a series of impossible truths
a series of impossible truths began in 2026. created as fictional publications documenting things that probably never happened.
written as an official report it presents strange events as established fact.
copies of the first book, the howling sheet were randomly distributed through village halls and community spaces in devon and cornwall, blurring the line between rumour, fiction and local record with the possibility of mistaking one for the other.

an improbable story
a fictional public relations company created to give one independent artist the professional representation expected by the music press.
founded in the late 1990s with no established reputation, improbable needed a memorable way to introduce itself to the media. each journalist received an individually designed business card, encased in acrylic and presented as an original artwork.
by elevating the business card into an artwork, it became an object to display rather than discard.
an improbable business card sent to the guardian newspaper: letterpress print, ‘happiness is a warm gun’.
